Yin Yoga is a guided yoga practice, using various props, to help you explore sustainable postures that encourage passively stressing, as opposed to stretching of the muscles, focusing instead on the harder joints, ligaments, tendons and vertebral discs in your entire body.
Yin Yoga is slower and often misunderstood as Restorative Yoga, but in many ways is no more an easier practice as it encourages poses that allow you to move inward and with more experience and regular exposure be able to individually seek out and feel into your body.
Yin Yoga in the western world is more scientifically based as it is now known to help break down the “cling wrap” feeling we often notice in our bodies. This can be scar tissue build up from past injuries, poor posture or overly athletic, repetitive exercise which causes us to tighten up and eventually leads to injury. The classes are designed to support and facilitate a more holistic space both mentally and physically. As we progress into the yin aspect of our practice we allow the body to cool, expand and repair naturally.
