As it warms up we may wonder why attend a hot yoga class at this time of the year? Surely it’s something to embrace in the Winter months!
Ironically the first classes I attended were at venues in South Africa and Fort Lauderdale, Florida where the temperature outside is generally always pretty warm all year round. The endorphins (the yoga natural high) released in a warmer yoga class are very enticing and enable us to explore a safer way to feel into our bodies and stretch much more deeply than in a regular room class setting. This “Yang” side – the energetic element of our classes embraces the heat with the infused essential oil aromas to stretch the muscle groups more effectively (which pls note is never as high as other well known international hot yoga studios) as well as naturally allowing the body to sweat and face the challenges of holding more dynamic poses at the same time. Getting comfortable with the uncomfortable.
Our classes then switch to the colder side – as we allow our bodies and the room to cool down naturally, finding more stillness in our poses so that we can explore and focus on compressing our harder joints and fascia in the rejuvenating, sensation driven “Yin” side of our practice.
